Launch: Be part of the Index of Independent News Publishing 2023

See how you can help us understand indie news publishing in the UK, and shape awareness of this valuable work among policymakers and donors.

Are you a professional provider of public interest news? Do you produce primarily text-based reporting? Is your turnover less than £2m?

The Public Interest News Foundation is launching the 2023 Index and inviting independent news providers to complete our 2023 Index survey from today, 9 January 2023.

If you answered "yes" to the questions above, we want to hear from you! Please complete the survey now!

Since its launch two years ago, we have used the PINF Index to raise awareness of the valuable work of independent news publishers among policymakers and donors.

In 2022, 72 publishers responded to the survey and provided insights into the workings and challenges of independent news publishing. This year, we are aiming for 100 responses, which will allow for new analysis to better understand what works for newsrooms and their audience, revenue and impact.

With your input, we can take this to the next level in 2023, and ensure that independent publishers get their fair share of support.

We can offer a thank-you gift of £20 to the first 100 participants of the survey – or you can choose to donate this back to support public interest news across the UK.

The Index is the leading source of in-depth information on the indie news sector. It provides vital evidence with which to make the case for greater awareness of and support for indie news providers.

The survey is shorter than in previous years – we estimate that it takes 25 mins to complete. You don’t have to do it all in one go, you can come back over time, so long as you allow cookies. Responses are saved each time you click/tap next.

Thank you in advance for your contribution to understanding this critical sector!
